We are offering two PhD positions at the interface of AI, weather forecasting and sustainable energy. Join our interdisciplinary research team in energy meteorology and AI-based weather forecasting.
​
We are looking for two doctoral researchers interested in artificial intelligence, weather forecasting and energy meteorology. Desired start date is spring/summer 2026. The PhD positions are 4-year full-time positions and fully funded with a salary of approximately 50'000 CHF or 54'000 EUR per year. The PhD students will be embedded at BFH and the Department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing at TU Delft from which the students are expected to receive their PhD degree.
Your profile:
-
MSc degree (or equivalent) in computer science, computer vision, physics, atmospheric or geoscience, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field

First experience in machine learning, deep learning frameworks, statistics, image processing, or signal analysis

Interest in atmospheric modelling and remote sensing

Strong programming skills incl. Python; analytical and quantitative skills, data analysis, scientific modelling and interpretation skills

You are self-motivated, proactive, and enjoy working with complex topics

You are committed to your project, enjoy collaborations and are a good team player
-
Good communication, writing and presentation skills will be advantageous

Your responsibilities:

Conduct research on topics related to this project

Publish your results in peer-reviewed international journals and at conferences

Organize project activities, engage in project meetings, report project work and results

Opportunity to assist in teaching and co-supervise undergraduate students
You will be embedded in the Energy Weather and AI Lab at TU Delft and BFH. Our group focuses on understanding and predicting weather- and climate-related factors that affect renewable energy resources and ambient conditions. Our research contributes to advancing the transition to low-carbon energy systems.
